The High Street was closed throughout the afternoon as about 5,000 revellers descended on the town for the third annual Caterham Street Party.

Caterham Round Table organised the human boat races for both children and adults were among the early highlights.

More than 20 two-person teams competed in each event, running along the High Street while carrying small mocked-up boats.

The winners in the children’s race were Luke Shires, 14, and Alex Doone, 15, in a boat sponsored by Ridge Radio. The adults’ race was won for the second successive year by Michael Burtenshaw, 16, and Matt Cavaciuti, 18, in a Caterham Communications boat.
